CE Marking and Test Reports: What They Mean for EU Exports
CE marking involves applicable requirements, conformity assessment and technical documentation; it cannot simply be equated with a test report.
Businesses targeting the EU should first determine whether their product falls within a category requiring CE marking and which EU requirements apply. Robotics and energy storage configurations vary, so the same certification checklist cannot be applied based solely on the product name.
Official EU guidance states that manufacturers are responsible for the applicable conformity assessment, technical documentation and EU Declaration of Conformity, and for affixing CE marking as required. Test reports can support conformity assessment but cannot replace all the work required of the manufacturer.
Businesses can organize documents around the intended use, target markets, critical configurations and applicable requirements, keeping labels, manuals, model details and testing documents consistent. GTG can help define testing requirements; the specific plan should be confirmed against the product and applicable regulations.
