Testing Project Coordination: Managing Sample Software and Test Operating Instructions
Standardize software versions, operating procedures and change records so different people can reproduce the same sample operating conditions.
Sample operating instructions can be organized into four stages: startup, connection, mode changes and shutdown. For each step, specify the controls, required accessories and expected behavior, adding screenshots or photographs to help the receiving team verify the operating state.
Label normal operating software and dedicated test tools separately with their names and versions. Record any external equipment, network connections or specific parameters needed for an operation. Information involving access permissions should be exchanged through an agreed secure channel.
After a software update, keep records of the changes and corresponding sample identifiers, and check whether existing operating instructions still apply. If a test state cannot be reproduced, first verify versions and parameters, then document the observed issue for discussion. Do not assume configurations match based only on filenames.
