Certification Overview

ErP

ErP sets ecodesign and energy efficiency requirements for energy-related products to reduce energy consumption and improve environmental performance. Products covered by relevant implementing measures must undergo the applicable conformity assessment and be supported by technical documentation and a declaration of conformity.

European Union ErP — Detailed Introduction

1. Certification Overview

ErP certification is a mandatory EU energy efficiency certification scheme. Energy-related products (ErP) are closely linked to significant environmental impacts throughout production, distribution and use. These include consumption of raw materials and natural resources such as water, waste generation, pollution caused by releases of hazardous substances, and climate change associated with energy consumption.

The EU introduced the ErP Directive to establish a coherent, comprehensive legal framework for the ecodesign of energy-using products, with the following objectives:

1. Ensure the free movement of energy-using products within the EU;

2. Improve their overall environmental performance to protect the environment;

3. Support a stable energy supply and improve the competitiveness of the EU economy;

4. Protect the interests of industry and consumers.

Relationship Between ErP and CE Marking

The ErP Directive requires energy-using products covered by implementing measures to bear the CE mark before entering the EU market. Before affixing the mark, the manufacturer or its authorized representative must ensure that the product has undergone conformity assessment in accordance with the relevant requirements and procedures, prepare the associated technical documentation, and issue an EC declaration of conformity.

2. Certification Mark

The ErP energy label contains the following information:

1. Trademark or supplier name;

2. Model identifier;

3. Energy efficiency scale from A to G;

4. Energy consumption in on-mode, in kWh/1000h;

5. QR code linking to the EPREL database;

6. Energy efficiency class;

7. Regulation number.

3. Product Scope
