Certification Overview

IEC Report

The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a global standardization organization composed of national electrotechnical committees. An IEC report is a standardized international safety test report listing the applicable standard's requirements clause by clause. It records all required tests, measurements, verifications, inspections and assessments clearly and unambiguously, including photographs, national differences, clause verdicts and product descriptions. Testing uses internationally harmonized and recognized standards. IEC reports do not require factory inspection.

International IEC Report — Detailed Introduction

I. Introduction to IEC Reports

IEC Certification

II. Why IEC Reports Matter

Certification bodies in member countries test electrical product safety against IEC standards. Reports demonstrating compliance are mutually recognized, reducing trade barriers arising from different national certification or approval criteria. An IEC report shows that a product meets the relevant standards and improves its market competitiveness. It can support applications for CB, CE and GS reports, conversion to national certifications such as SAA, and shipment inspections in Middle Eastern and South African markets.

III. IEC Report Certification Scope

IEC covers electrotechnology fields including electrical equipment, motors, electronics, power, microelectronics, communications, audiovisual equipment, robotics, information technology, new medical devices and nuclear instrumentation.

V. Common IEC Test Items

1. Basic requirements: Component construction, labels and instructions, energy source classification and safeguards, protective measures and explosion hazards

2. Electrically caused injury: Electrical energy source safeguards, insulation materials and requirements, and protective components

3. Electrically caused fire: Classification of power sources and potential ignition sources, fire safeguards, and internal and external wiring

4. Injury caused by hazardous substances

5. Mechanically caused injury

6. Thermal burns

7. Radiation: Classification of radiation energy sources, safeguards against laser radiation and acoustic energy sources

VI. IEC Report Process

1. Provide samples;

2. Complete the application form;

3. Provide required product information, such as instructions, a model list including series models, critical component lists and certificates, product photographs and nameplates;

4. Test the samples. Issue the report if they pass; otherwise, make corrections and retest, then issue the report after a pass.

Note: When applying for IEC certification, specify the countries to be included in the report so that their national differences can be considered during testing.
