CEC certification is based on the Appliance Efficiency Regulations implemented by the California Energy Commission on December 30, 2005. The regulations aim to improve electrical product efficiency, conserve energy and reduce emissions and greenhouse effects. Electrical products sold in California must meet the appliance efficiency requirements, which specify efficiency criteria, measurement methods and phased implementation schedules for 58 categories. Products must be tested by qualified laboratories against the applicable US regulations or standards and shown to comply before sale in California.
