RED stands for Radio Equipment Directive and governs conformity of wireless products. Before legal sale in the EU, wireless products must undergo testing under the directive and bear the CE mark. They must meet RED 2014/53/EU requirements.
1. Certification Overview
RED stands for Radio Equipment Directive and governs conformity of wireless products. Before legal sale in the EU, wireless products must undergo testing under the directive and bear the CE mark. They must meet RED 2014/53/EU requirements.
2. Certification Mark

3. Product Scope
1. Short-range radio devices (SRDs), including remote-controlled toy cars, alarm systems, doorbells, switches, mice and keyboards;
2. Professional mobile radio (PMR) products, including professional two-way radios and wireless microphones;
3. CT0 and CT1 cordless telephones;
4. ISDN digital telephone products;
5. DECT digital enhanced cordless telecommunications;
6. GSM and CDMA mobile phones;
7. Bluetooth products, such as headsets;
8. Inductive data transmission devices operating below 9 kHz;
9. Radio broadcast receivers.
4. Sample Requirements
1. Two fixed-frequency RF test samples and one standard sample
2. Fixed-frequency samples are required for multichannel products. For single-channel products, provide continuously transmitting and continuously receiving samples.

6. Test Items
1. Electromagnetic compatibility testing (EMC);
2. LVD safety testing, including battery-powered RF products under the new directive;
3. Radio communications equipment testing to European ETSI standards (RF testing);
4. Notification of permitted European spectrum use;
5.CTR;
6. Electrical safety and health protection testing (SAR assessment).
7. Required Documents
1. Operational Description (English);
2. Block Diagram Showing All Crystal Oscillators and Frequencies, Consistent with the Circuit Diagram;
3. User Manual;
4. Circuit Diagram with Crystal Frequencies, Quantities and Locations Matching the Block Diagram;
5. Label;
6. Wireless Module Parameters: Frequency Range, Channel Count, Maximum Transmit Power, Antenna Gain, Modulation and More.
8. Certification Process
1. Application: Complete the application form, provide documents and send samples;
2. Quotation: Engineers determine the applicable standards, test duration and fees from the information provided;
3. Payment: The applicant accepts the quotation, signs the project application and service agreement, and pays the fees;
4. Testing: The laboratory performs the full test program against relevant EU standards;
5. Testing passes and the report is completed;
6. The project is completed and a CE certificate issued. If an NB application is required, documents and reports are submitted to the notified body, which issues its certificate after approval.
9. Certification Timeline & Validity
Timeline: Approximately 3 weeks. Testing problems, incomplete samples or other exceptional circumstances may require additional time.
Validity: Depends on whether the standard remains valid. If the standard expires, the certificate also expires and recertification is required.
10. Factory Inspection
No factory inspection required
11. Important Notes
1. RED requires wireless products to meet health, EMC, radio and LVD requirements. LVD safety requirements apply regardless of the power supply method.
2. When non-harmonized radio standards are used, a notified body (NB) application is mandatory. When harmonized standards are used, NB involvement may be selected according to customer needs.
3. RED also requires a declaration of conformity, as do other directives.
