Energy Efficiency Laboratory
Back to Laboratories →
1. Energy Efficiency Laboratory
The energy efficiency laboratory of a GTG Group affiliate is staffed by lighting certification engineers. Its facilities include an LED lighting laboratory, a photometric distribution laboratory, a photobiology laboratory and integrating sphere equipment. Systems for luminous intensity distribution, light and color measurement, spectral efficacy and ENERGY STAR testing support energy efficiency certification for lighting manufacturers worldwide.
2. Energy Efficiency Certification Services
1. China Energy Conservation Certification (CECP)
China energy conservation certification is a voluntary product certification scheme operated by the China Quality Certification Centre. Testing is performed by laboratories working with CQC, certificates are issued by CQC, and factory inspections are required.
2. US DOE Energy Efficiency
DOE stands for the US Department of Energy. Under this energy efficiency program, Level IV requirements became mandatory on July 1, 2011, with Level VI required from February 2016. Online registration is required, and the listing must be searchable on the official website. Meide Testing can assist with registration free of charge. There are no laboratory qualification requirements beyond having the necessary test equipment.
3. US CEC Energy Efficiency
CEC requirements apply to products exported to California. CEC stands for the California Energy Commission. CEC covers 21 major product categories subject to energy consumption requirements. Laboratories must obtain CEC approval before issuing reports.
4. ENERGY STAR Certification
ENERGY STAR is a US government-led energy-saving program primarily covering consumer electronics. It was launched in 1992 by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Energy (DOE).
5. European ErP Energy Efficiency
The first phase of European ErP energy efficiency requirements became mandatory on April 26, 2010, followed by the second phase on April 26, 2011. The applicable marking is the CE mark, with no registration or laboratory qualification requirement. ErP does not yet require Level VI; European CoC Level VI requirements are currently referenced.
6. Australian GEMS (Formerly MEPS)
GEMS is Australia's energy efficiency certification program. MEPS has Levels III, IV and V, with compliance required at the minimum applicable level. Products must be registered before sale. We can assist with registration, subject to a fee.
MEPS has no laboratory qualification requirements.
7. Canadian NRCan
Canadian NRCan energy efficiency requirements became mandatory on April 12, 2012. Applications must be submitted through an approved certification body. Meide Testing can assist with registration. The requirements specify Level IV. International efficiency markings IV, V and VI or the certification body's energy efficiency mark may be used. Registration is required without a fee. Level VI became mandatory on July 1, 2016.
